we have recently replaced ALL our Latex gloves and pt care items with latex
into silicone or vinyl products to SAVE the adults from Latex allergies etc
a few years back I read that Latex contained Nitrosamines in the
preservation process and recently I read where pacifiers have been linked
to more numerous otitis media in day care infants. SOOO I am presenting to
my Perinatal committee a suggestion that we replace all nipples and
pacifiers with silicone nipples and pacifiers to avoid the POTENTIAL
exposure to allergens and reduce contact with potentially harmful chemicals
(since infant guts and exposure to allergens early in life may be the
cental reason we are seeing so many latex reactions as adults........)

I need to know if anyone out there has a hospital policy or a committee
that is likewise addressing this issue on behalf of their newborn patients
PLEASE SHARE any info, research, etc that I might use in my presentation
DR HALE do you have any info regarding LAtex? I noted that one of the ABM
companies provide LATEX FREE disp nipples for their bottles yet they smell
and taste suspiciously like balloons and all the latex nipples we have used
inteh past WHAT gives ANY one HELP

ps: My last request for ideas with "potential weaning for bloody mucous in
diaper of thriving Brf Baby" went ignored did it ever make it on-line?

THANKS everyone! ruthy wilson rn ibclc.
