Her symptoms will probably be whatever they usually are, only more so, 
because of the moisture from the baby's mouth, and trauma of suckling (which 
in a good latch, will be on the skin of the breast and areola, not nipple). 
Usually eczema itches, may become secondarily infected (with fungi &/or 
bacteria) which complicates the situation.

The key to management of eczma is hydration of the skin.  Hydration in this 
sense is more lubrication htat water, which will dehydrate skin.  She should 
use hydrating creams/ointments, supplemented when necessary with steroid 
cream.

<< she is very worried about nursing her newborn who's due soon and I've 
never come across this sort of eczema like rash on the nipple and areola and 
am not sure what she should expect to feel (pain or itching?).>>
