You would think, given that this is exceptionally uncommon, that the focus
would be on acetaminophen, which is toxic in relatively low doses!

According to one article I read, an average of 100 people in the US die due
to acetaminophen toxicity yearly, and over 56,000 are admitted to the ER
with toxicity symptoms. Reported toxic doses range from 4g - 10g per day.

The standard dosing instructions are "1-2 tablets orally every 4-6 hours as
needed." If one took 2 tabs each 4 hours for a 24-hour period, that would be
3600mg, close to a possibly toxic dose. A sleepy or confused mother could
easily fit in another 2 pills. A mother taking Tylenol Extra Strength
(500mg, 1-2 tab every 4-6 hours) could easily take a potential overdose
without knowing (1000mg x 6 doses = 6g)

Whose health is really at issue? The health of the mother/baby, or the
health of a financial industry (be it hospital, insurance, pharmacy,
formula.....)?

Best wishes,
Sam Doak
