Brick dust or uric crystals are normal in the infant according to the
neonatologist I work with.  I do not have a reference for this just her explanation.
Newborns are born with extra fluid on board to help them through the early
days while mom's mature milk is coming in.  So the first day the newborn tends
to have very clear urine.  After that extra fluid has been excreted the kidneys
concentrate the urine and the by product is uric crystals.  When mom's mature
milk comes in and the baby is taking in larger volumes the uric crystals go
away.
Brick dust in of itself is not a problem unless other signs of dehydration
are noted in the older infant.
