Carol,
I would respectfully question how much is really known about cow lactation.
We would not expect to learn very much about human lactation if we took away
all infants at birth and hooked the mothers up to breast pumps for a duration
determined by us. This is analogous to cow lactation as it exists in the farm
environment. Further, we cannot even ask these mother cows how the loss of
their babies affects their lactation. I find it almost eerie to imagine we
could draw any real conclusions from such research.
