The International Formula Council has been busy doing damage control
following the NY Times article, but especially following this study on how the
excessive amounts of iron in formula could possible contribute to adult
Parkinson's disease:

Kaur D, Peng J, Chinta SJ, et al. Increased murine neonatal iron intake
results in Parkinson-like neurodegeneration with age. Neurobiol of Aging 2006;
_doi:10.1016/j.neurobiolaging.2006.04.003_
(http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.neurobiolaging.2006.04.003)
Baby mice were fed the equivalent amount of iron found in infant formula and
wound up with an interesting effect on the brain!
You can read all of the IFC's press releases on this issue at
_http://www.infantformula.org_ (http://www.infantformula.org/) . Add this to the excessive
amounts of aluminum found in soy and specialty formulas and it's no wonder
adult formula-fed brains are full of Alzheimer's plaques, iron-induced damage,
and who knows what else! It's interesting that clinicians in the face of this
knowledge will still defend the use of formula and mothers will still want
whatever is "free!"---doesn't seem to matter that these brain-altering
ingredients are exacting a heavy toll on our future health.
