Dear Lactnets;
  I have permission to post this mom for some suggestions. Baby is 14 months of age. Has weaned since 9 months of age. Very difficult beginning. I saw this mom 3 weeks postpartum. Baby had been given supplements in the hospital and would not latch. Over the period of days to weeks baby came around to breastfeed. Continued to need to supplement because mom's supply was not sufficient enough to maintain good weight gains.
  Problem now is that she is lactating. Attended a funeral last week, heard a baby cry and her breasts filled and leaked. Doesn't produce a large amount but enough to be uncomfortable. Referred her to her physician for prolactin levels, pregnancy tests and breast exam. All levels were normal. She is not pregnant and breast exam was negative of any abnormalities. He didn't suggest anything to her.
  I suggested foods that contain sage, peppermint and parsley. Any other suggestions?
  As always I look forward to hearing replies.
  Terri Klein RN CLE CLC will take IBCLC exam hopefully this year.
