pat's right - glucose water is not a food - its a crutch to use to enable
whatever needs to happen to get the baby fed. however, if i can get the baby
fed without using formula, sorry, that's where i am headed. but, and having
checked with the guru about this specifically - its important to not give
anyone the impression you can just give glucose water for hours or days. if
the mom isn't making any milk at all, you can't assume she will in 12 hours
if you are past day three, you have to feed the baby something real. of
course, if the baby is 36 hours old and you give an ounce of glucose while
continuing to help the baby get colostrum (like fixing the latch) - that's
different.

the info on hypoglycemia says that formula is actually bad for "fixing"
hypoglycemia - if a baby is pretty far gone and you want to give them
something to prevent hospitalization, would formula be the actual best
choice? rob says that even when giving glucose the baby might seize anyway,
and their electrolytes should be checked if they are being seriously
malnourished.

rob with ibclc after his name. pretty good!

my cranial remember file is pretty good, but i like to "tip in" things. you
know, like in a book that has a little slip of paper inserted to correct an
error. i have a formula to convert the test results for hormone tests
(lawrence puts it one way, the lab puts it another here, a chemist friend
gave me the conversion formula) which i put in the book on the correct page
so that if i ever need to know it again, its there.

and you wouldn't think i would need to know that again so soon, but i did.

i put drug updates in the hale book so they won't fall out, too, over the
year. or even write on the books (hard for me to do, but i write it ever so
nicely). i guess what i am saying here is the good handwriting is of key
importance.
