Jeanette: what a lovely post. Asking how the mom is emotionally is also a
first step to finding out if there are perinatal mood disorders going on.
And that applies to asking during pregnancy as well. It can refer to
perinatal anxiety, OCD, PTSD and panic disorder, though most often after
about 3 weeks when one can rule out the baby blues. Often moms don't know
what's "wrong" until someone asks that question.
