WHen you say the nipple tip was raw and yellow, did you mean it looked
infected?  A bacterial infection of the nipples looks like white or
yellow pus on the red abraded nipple.  If not treated, the infection can
ascend into the breast.
Jack's APNO is a good alternative, as is washing the nipples with mild
soap once or twice a day to reduce the chance of the infection ascending.
