There is a lot of material on the internet from newspapers or blogs of
various quality, and some commentaries. I did a search yesterday. This post
is to acknowledge Jodine's thoughtful post and the link to Amber McCann's
blog post, which looks useful.
For some information based on research of what mothers actually do, have a
look at two recent papers of mine. The first concerned mothers in Australia,
1978-2008, and was published in Breastfeeding Review (2009). It has been
posted, with permission, on the WABA website, at www.waba.org.my (If you
can't find it, email me off list.)
The second study, with the experiences of women in a number of different
cultures, mainly in the 21st century, was published in the New Year in
Nursing Reports, an online, open-access journal, at
http://www.pagepressjournals.org/index.php/nursing/index
Some of you contributed to the second study, off list, and I've done my best
to contact those for whom I have a current email contact.

I'd like to draw the list's attention to IBCLC Amber McCann's latest blog
post. She has written about supporting families in milksharing from the
perspective of a practicing IBCLC. I'm glad that Amber is speaking out about
this - I know many IBCLCs who field questions from families about how they
should go about obtaining donor milk when they need to supplement, or what
to do with their excess milk, and I'm really glad Amber has written this
post.
