Nope.  What this baby does is gape well, tongue well forward,
attatchs and latchs well but during the feed it manages to move its
tongue back and push up on the nipple, then the tongue comes down and
forward again.  Wierd I know.  The baby is gaining heaps of weight
and is so happy (now 4 weeks), but Mum just had sore nipples and a
nipple that looked pushed to one side after a feed.  No cracks,
redness, blanching or anything, just unhappiness.  After suck
training and removing the dummy, the baby is feeding well.  Mum and
dad got the baby to imitate them sticking out their tongue and then
during a feed, Mum would say to the baby, "stick your tongue out", to
remind the baby to keep her tongue in the right spot.  It worked
really well after only 24 hours.  It just shows us that babys are
very clever beings.
I know that tongue thrusting is not really what I have described
above, but in my mind that is the only term I could come up with to
describe this babys habit.
