I was just alerted to a website for the hospital where my mother gave birth
to me and started me on my BF career... one of Oslo's 3 maternity units and
by far (IMNSHO) the best. They have a photo essay from a birth with text by
the parents and pictures by the midwives. You won't understand the text but
the pictures speak for themselves. The mother writes that after her first
birth, with Demerol, pitocin and finally an epidural, she wanted to
experience a different kind of birth, not intoxicated and with encouragement
from her attendants that she could do it herself. In accordance with her
wishes it was the father who 'caught' the baby this time. The only
intervention shown is the gloved hands cutting the cord. This is a
university facility but the unit where this birth took place is midwife-run
(yea for normal birth!).
Go to : http://www.aker.uio.no/
And on the 'Velkommen' page, click on the third article from the top, 'En
god fødsel' which means a good birth. Enjoy. The English page only gives
background info about the hospital, sorry.
Warning: pictures contain some nudity :)
