Dear Kim: You said you were having a big fibroid tumor removed, but your
post says you're having a hysterectomy. However, whether you're having
a hysterectomy or a myomectomy, the management of your continued
breastfeeding should be similar. It's not clear from your post what
questions you have. Of course, you should ensure that for whatever
period you can't nurse the baby, you should have access to an electric
pump to use on a 2-3 hour schedule in order to avoid engorgement and
decrease of your milk supply. As for the effects of the anesthesia, you
should be able to nurse the baby once you are able to hold him/her (this
should be no different than after a C/section). It's wonderful that you
have such supportive people around you. Good luck, Alicia. [log in to unmask]
