Hi, Nikki:  The chances of confusion from conflicting opinions also go way
down because mom is no longer paying attention to the "opinion'giver".  She
is totally focused on her baby.  I have learned to say what I really want
the mom to hear BEFORE I give her her baby.  Once her baby hits her chest,
she totally focuses on the baby and I may as well be invisible - which is a
good thing.  If the father is present, he also tends to focus on the mom-
baby dyad.
Remember, also that breastfeeding is a hormone-driven process and those
hormones are activated and rise to appropriate levels only thru skin-to-
skin.  I frequently  tell parents that sex and childbirth, the 2 processes
that got them to the point of breastfeeding are also hormone-driven.  And
that I very rarely run into an adult who objects to taking off their
clothing when a sexual encounter is being planned!
