The Prozac question came up recently. At this time, caution is
recommended using Prozac and other SSRI's in bf moms because they haven't
been around long enough to have a track record. They don't seem to have
any short term effects, but all CNS meds have the potential to cause
subtle long-term effects on brain development. The bf friendly
psychiatrist I refer to prefers desipramine because of a long safety
record and relatively low level of side effects.

My son was also a frequent all-night latcher for a long time. In his
case it was due to ear fluid, which didn't bother him during the day when
he was upright and busy, but seemed to require continuous latch on at
night. (I don't know if it was to "pop" his ears or just for comfort.)
I actually got so I *knew* he had an ear infection just by his sleep
pattern with no other symtoms, something his doctor didn't really believe.
He also did it occasionally just before cutting a tooth. The mom might
try giving baby some acetaminophen at bedtime and/or having baby's ears
checked.
