You are wise in realizing that the decision for moms to quit  BF was their own.
While it is heartbreaking to see a mom end something so important, the burden of
responsibility is her own.  Have you reminded these moms that the decision is
not necessarily final? I have known moms to give up, often out of shear
exhaustion, only to later regret.  How about encouraging them to relactate?
Once she has a few nights of better sleep,(or so she thinks) she may be able to
focus.  They may decide not to do this, but often there is relief in the
knowledge that there still might be a chance of success...
