Dianne and other interested,
Both those meds, used for seizures are AAP approved for use in breastfeeding  as per Hale's. Only small amounts get into the milk. For carbamazepine Hales says "compatable nursing with close observation."
Early in my post residency career I had a mom D/C breastfeeding as directed by her adult nuerologist b/c of valproic acid.
