Pat, certainly in Mali no one has access to antibiotics -- or extremely
rarely, and then only as injections of penicillin.  I also think the
extremely hot and dry climate must also make it difficult for yeast to
flourish.  A dog hit by a train at 7 am is completely dessicated by 10 am.
Gross example, but a clear one to indicate how hot and dry it is in Mali.
