When I used to work in the NICU, they had a small cabinet in the hallway 
between nurseries where beverages could be kept.  They we could just step outside 
the room for a moment and get a drink.  However a lot of us just set our water 
bottle on top of the scrub sink just outside the nursery door, then we could 
see the monitors from the doorway.  One nurse was always in the room, anyhow.  
(Of course, no drinks were on the sink when JCAHO was around.)  There was 
also an ice and water machine in one of the halls.  Where I worked there was 5 
nurseries, so the entire unit had a generous amount of hall space.  So I didn't 
have too much trouble keeping hydrated.  I worked through 2 pregnancies in 
there, and I would just step out for a moment periodically and down 2 cups of the 
ice water.  The ice/water machine was just outside one of the pumping rooms 
for the mothers, so they had use of it as well.

On the regular pediatric wards, nurses would keep their drinks in conference 
room on the table.  We would sit there to chart, or when we had a free moment.
