Hi Liz, (from Marcia in the hot seat),
I always have anxiety when I post to this list bacause no matter how carefully I try to word my posts, what readers take away from it is usually not exactly what I meant to say. Writing well is a real skill that I'm still working on :)
To be a bit flip back ;) I was trying to make the point that I don't want to see women believeing or being told " You will absolutely not get 100% of the needed supply because you didn't empty your breasts often enough in the early days." Of course we can't promise anything. For one thing, unlike in my hypothetical case we don't know that the mom doesn't have an endocrine or other biological issue that means she can't make a full supply. We can only help her decide on some goals and work with her step by step as she discovers what's possible for her. I've enjoyed the several posts that have described what to say in these situations and won't attempt to do better :) The trick is to know how not to be too overly-optimistic nor too pessimistic. Guess I'm still waiting for someone to invent that crytal ball....
And thanks to whoever recommended the new Thomas Hale/Peter Hartmann book, I'll put it on my wish list.
Marcia McCoy
