Dear Dr. Jack, et al, Regarding the food allergy thread: I have food
"allergies". Or maybe just one "allergy" (wheat) and the rest are
intolerances---it turns out I am gluten intolerant. Now that I've
discovered this, I am a NEW PERSON! (Yes, I'm shouting!) For me,
wheat causes severe wheezing and migraine headache. Plus intestinal
difficulties. The other gluten-containing foods do not cause the
wheezing and HAs (for me). It is possible that some of these babies
have low-grade gluten enteropathy, or some other intolerance, which
then makes them sensitive to other foods, or secondarily lactose
intolerant (may be temporary). My reflux Sxs are not gone, but much
reduced---I'm no longer on meds for reflux, asthma, etc etc etc. Other
very distressing/painful Sxs are GONE (hear the trumpets, see the
happy feet!) unless I accidentally eat a wrong thing. Dr. Vonlanthen
once said at a conference session that if one parent is allergic, baby
has about 30% chance of developing allergies (including food
sensitivities), if both are allergic, about 60% chance (I pray I've
remembered correctly).
This can be affecting LOTS of people! Or, lots of these babies may
have foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, and have temporarily sensitive guts
that way. It does not seem mysterious to me. Just hard to ferret out
which came first. Comments?
