Thank you very much to all who responded to my question on and off list.

I am really grateful to have LACTNET to vent my frustration and get ideas.
I am pretty sure that the cultural issues are what caused the main break
of communication between this mother and myself.  I continually was
weighing whether to acknowledge / almost agree with / her point of view or
whether to correct it.  I feel like I forsaw all the problems she has had
and I am sorry that I was not able to help.  Yet I now feel that I have
done everything that was in my power to do.  I never wanted to deny her
the same good information that I would give an american client.  In that
sense, I know that I did not fail, and the unexpected outcome, whatever it
may become, was and is not my fault.

I feel much better now, having not only heard from many wise ones on
Lactnet but also having talked to my local nursing mother's support
group.  My next and last phone call to her will be one where I offer her
my phone number again and tell her I wish her luck and that I admire her
determination to continue breastfeeding in spite of her difficulties.
