When I would do test weights, I would always point out to the mom that assessing one feedng is like looking at one frame of a movie, not the entire film.  In addition to all the other information I would be gathering by questions, observation and yes, intuition, I would always ask the mom, "How does this partidcular feeding compare with baby's other feedings or with what you might call a 'typical' feeding?"  This would include length of feeding, vigorousness (enthusiasm?) of the baby's nursing, comfort for mom, baby's behavior before and after, etc., etc., etc.  I would hate to make an entire assessment or  plan based only on one feeding, measured or not.  However, we can't be there to observean entire day (or even week) of feedings, so we usually have only one to work with.  Mom is there for all the feedings, so we need to get her view on how the onw we are there for compares.
