Everyone is talking about the oedema to the fetus caused by IVs in
labour... is this surmised and something we have all jumped on to, or is it
genuinely reseached and proven fact? I haven't seen good research to show
that it is yet. Does anyone know if it exists, and preferably has been
corroborated. What about the confounding variables?? Many of your
institutions which have high use of many bags of IV fluids also have very
poor breastfeeding initiation practices - mother/baby separation, etc; and
we know that babies feeding abilities and desire are affected by epidurally
administered drugs in labour.
