Hi All,
Have a personal question regarding pregnancy and BF, and am unable to get any
answers here.
Ok, here are the symptoms, typical tender nipples, a little bit of dryness on
the nipples and areola (haven't been brave enough to try Lanolin because I am
allergic to wool, and don't know what else would be ok to use as a
moisturizer since we are still BF and I reccomend to my clients "No lotions
or potions..."). Ben (my nursling at 26 mo) while BF, will leave creases and
blanching in the nipple occasionally (I have to continually take him off and
start him over because it hurts!), usually when he is sleepy and nursing. He
has even bitten me once or twice! (Little stinker!) Twice now, I have
discovered the beginnings of splits in the base of the nipple (one for each
side), and have treated with antibiotic ointment (sparingly applied at night
before bed and after he has finished nursing for the night) (Oh, I wash the
nipple with water first).
I use no soaps at all on the breasts, and am very careful about shampoo etc.
(Had the same dryness prob with both previous pregnancies so am assuming
this is normal for me. Dryness resolved with initiation of BF.)
So, any ideas on how to get rid of this dryness, and keep the splits from
occurring without weaning? Is Ben's BF behavior (creasing the nipple) normal
for a toddler, or is he just wierd? Why would he start creasing the nipple
after BF so normally for so long? Any help or suggestions would be
appreciated!
I kinda hate this, you know? I know a bunch about the little babies and
normal BF stuff, but when it comes to toddlers, I haven't a clue! Having
never BF a toddler before, I am not surprised, but it is annoying. :)
Anyone know of specific classes that deal with toddler BF issues?
TIA!!

Jay
