One of my group mothers is moving back to Trinidad. Her child is 4
months old and doing well, though baby was sick recently and did not
gain enough weight to stay in the 25th percentile, dropping to 5th,
though every developmental milestone, head circumfrence and length
continue to be consistent with where she is "supposed to be." Also, baby
has 2 stools and at least 6 wet diapers daily. The family has a long Hx
of allergies, and baby has shown sensitivities to foods mother consumes
that dad is allergic to (peanuts, most notably). Mom is petite, but dad
is not small, according to mom. Anyway, because of the slow weight gain,
a nurse practitioner in her peds practice here in FL suggested starting
solids, esp. rice cereal. Mother is not happy with this idea, and has
decided to attempt to nurse every 2 hours to get the weight up. She
really wants to keep the baby exclusively breastfed until at least the 6
month mark to avoid the allergy problems later.

But I'm writing because she is moving to Trinidad, and is looking for a
breastfeeding support group (I'm pretty certain LLL doesn't have a group
in Trinidad) and/or a BF-friendly pediatrician. You may, of course,
respond off-list.

Thanks,
