Rowena,

My kids had multiple intolerances as babies, and did grow out of them while
I was on an elimination diet. None of us have any problems with anything
in the present day, except gluten (genetically) for the kids, and I think I
might finally be having trouble with mold after 20 years in a moldy part of
the state :P

In my earlier experience, though, I'll say that I absolutely agree with
what you're seeing wrt the connection between digestive and respiratory
allergies. I don't think that there is a "direct" connection, but I am a
definite subscriber to the Bucket Theory, which says that our immune
systems can cope with a certain amount of irritation, but once something
puts the total quantity over the edge of the bucket, the whole dang thing
overflows and things that had been okay aren't anymore until everything
calms down again.

When we were figuring things out with a sick baby, it really did help to
change everything in the house to homemade, non-chemical, no food
additives, etc. Now if I keep things "clean" at home, we don't have to
worry about being out and about and having something cause trouble.

My kids' dad did not have the benefit of a nursing mom who was able to
figure things out for him, so he didn't clean up his diet until he was in
his 40s. Same with his own dad. If they are careful with their diets,
spring pollen isn't such a big deal.
