I've had an interesting day interacting with my colleagues today. During
nursery rounds I overhead another pediatrician tell new parents, "make sure
you bottle feed every other feeding until your breastmilk comes in." At noon
conference one colleague was asking me what to do with her one year old who
doesn't sleep. We turned to another colleague with four children (also a
neonatologist) who told us that the big mistake we have made was holding our
children to sleep and feeding them at night after a month of age. He was
very emphatic that babies need to learn how to console themselves instead of
being picked up by their parents after one month of age (yes a devotee of
Ezzo). I was able to slip in a bit about attachment parenting before she
left.

All three of the pediatricians involved are parents...

Earlier this morning I was doubting whether I could get my stuff organized to
sit for the IBCLC exam this year. Even if I don't take the exam this year I
am redoubling my efforts to expand my knowledge base.

Fighting off a really bad belly ache (this usually happens when I am trying
to be diplomatic).
