A friend of mine several years ago struggled with repeated bouts of
Mastitis. Her doctor advised early weaning (this doctor is very
pro-breastfeeding) because of the trouble.
Now I do believe in her case it was due mainly to not emptying the breasts
at each feeding, and not feeding frequently enough. She would nurse, if the
baby fell asleep, feeding time was over and nap time begun. Then the baby
would need to wait until it was again "time to nurse" before the breast was
offered again. (Yes, she did do a very strict schedule)
