I do not like or use the term RAM. I too find it offensive. Years ago when I
was learning to be an LC (1989?), the IBclc who mentored me used this word
and action on moms. She really did RAM the babies on. I thought this was the
only way; boy did I need a more thorough education. From here I went to the
hands off approach, but now I do what I judge to be the best approach in the
situation. But this never involves RAMMING. My motto is Live and Learn.
Reading like crazy and being on Lactnet helps greatly in this department.

Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC
