Hi Kathy,
        You are not alone -- I'll add my study of two to the "back sleeping
isn't for everyone" list... how about babies with a sensitive startle
reflex? My sons literally would wake instantly in a startle --head thrown
back arms and legs flailed and wail as soon as they were put on their backs!
        The first was worse than the second, he NEVER once stayed asleep on
his back when put down unless he'd been swaddled first -- and gee that's on
the list of no-no's too... between that and his proficient spitting up (so
good at it we had pyloric stenosis ruled out) it could have been a disaster.
        My vote for newborns is on their tummies on Daddy's chest or on
their sides whilst nursing with mom...

        I have to add here that the talk of hospital co-sleeping requiring
the bedrails to be padded with pillows seems, to me, like a potential
suffocation hazard for the baby!!! yet another reason to have babies at home
-- no hospital beds to fall out of or get squished in....but that's another
thread for another list...
