The problem, as I see it, is that there are some nurses who are not LCs that
are giving out breastfeeding advice that may not necessarily be up to current
standards.  The info is given, often in the hospital setting, when mom has
recently delivered and is very vulnerable.  Mom often takes the nurses word as
*gospel* and can then get the wrong start.  When I see them later, in my
private practice, we then have to begin by undoing some of the wrong, breaking
down barriers that are already in place and restarting.  This often takes
longer than if the mom had been referred to a LC, either hospital based or
private, from the start.  I have no wish to offend anyone, just wish that these
new moms and babies could have a happier start.
