When my grandson was born prematurely three years ago, he spent several
weeks in our local hospital's NICU. They have a room attached to the NICU
where mothers can stay, with a couple of beds, a bathroom, etc. My
daughter-in-law was able to stay there throughout his stay and could be with
him whenever she wanted (she set an alarm to make sure she woke up for
feedings during the night). This hospital was not especially supportive of
breastfeeding in many ways but we really appreciated that she was able to be
there 24/7 with him. The only time she was not allowed in the NICU was when
the doctors were doing rounds - for privacy reasons, so she wouldn't hear
anything about someone else's baby.
