Hi Teresa,
Congratulations on the birth of your grandson and thank-you for sharing your
poignant story! How fortunate you are to have a son and dil that hold so
closely to your values. That must have helped to make what sounds like a
trying experience more tolerable.
As a former NICU nurse, I must say that I was shocked by the care given in
this NICU. They must know, if they follow research at all, that this isn't
the standard of care provided in at least some, and I would like to think
most, NICUs in the US. I have worked in or been exposed to quite a few here
in the northeast and while they each have their strengths and weaknesses
regarding care of the premie, I know of none that would tolerate this
substandard of care. No NICU is an island. They must, if they want to be
considered providers of good health care, be receptive to current research (i
say this tic as k-care is 20+ years old!) and practice guidelines.
Don't miss this oppurtunity to bring them into the 21st century!!
