Hi, I am a new subscriber to LACNET (since Monday!) and find myself in need of
assistance. I am a Public Health Nurse working with a community health
organization in Newfoundland. I have completed studies in the area of
lactation and am working towards becoming an IBCLC.
Today in the breastfeeding support group that I run on a weekly basis I saw
a new mom who is at the possible end of her fourth round of mastitis. Her
baby is 7 weeks old. Mom is currently on penicillin with two days treatment
left and she feels that she will be in trouble again by Saturday. Mom is
doing the usual applications of heat, massage and changing position of babe
at the breast. The mastitis has not recurred in the same place but has
occurred in the right breast three times.
Mom queried a yeast overgrowth / infection as the root cause and has
started taking acidophlius.I would appreciate any suggestions anyone has
for this mom,
she is very determined to breastfeed but is not sure how many more times
she can
put up with this. Thanks!
