Hi Becky,
"I just read the long document from the Center for Missing and Exploited
Children, and this is the advice for parents:
"Never leave your infant out of your direct line-of-sight
even when you go to the bathroom or take a nap. If you
leave the room or plan to go to sleep, alert the nurses
to take the infant back to the nursery or have a family
member watch the baby. When possible, keep the infant's
bassinet on the side of your bed that is away from the door(s)
leading out of the room."
If this is what JCAHO wants, how do those of you with
breastfeeding-friendly policies get around it?"

According to the above, I don't see anything saying anything about co sleeping - not pro and not con. the opposite. Anyone having their babies in bed with them would seem to be following this advice to the T. (advise those sleeping with their infants to be sure to have those bassinets on the side of their beds - probably great for storing and holding mags and treats!!)

We have just had a tragedy here in Israel where a two week old died in mom's bed so this is a very close issue today. I will try to get a reaction to this in the press for the weekend stating that the cosleeping was probably not the issue, and the importance of safe sleep environment. I am sure James McKenna will help me out with the latest stats!! wish I didn't need 'em.
