I am not an expert on this, but I will give it a shot.   Please, correct me
if I am wrong.   HIV is the virus that is presumed to cause   AIDS.   A person
can be HIV positive for years and not have any of the symptoms of AIDS.   Moms
may be refusing the HIV testing because of the false positive results.   If
mom tests positive, she normally would be started on medications.   My
understanding is that there are concerns with how these medications affect the
developing fetus.
