I currently have a contract with both WIC and the County Health Dept which
allow me to to go into the hospital and offer breastfeeding assistance. I
used to have a grant in another county which allowed me to troll for
patients while trundling, yes, a cart full of educational kits (containing
books, videos, pamphlets). It worked pretty well. Of course I wouldn't
hand out formula at the hospital--to get it from our WIC office, you have to
first hear (a) your alternative solutions and (b) drawbacks of using
artificial baby milk.

When one belongs to a religion or a profession with clearly defined ethical
limits on behavior, and a supervisor threatens to terminate one's employment
if one does not violate one's stated ethical precepts, the supervisor is on
shaky ground. I would stick to your principles and take it over your
supervisor's head--as high as it needs to go--if your supervisor continues
to attempt to force you into unethical behavior.
