Friends,

This is not exactly a breastfeeding topic, but I would appreciate your input
on the use of gentian violet for my 8 year old autistic son. He has very
high Candida levels, so far not eradicated by Nystatin or Diflucan. Stool
and urine tests done at Great Smokies Labs indicate that the Candida is most
sensitive to Itraconazole and Ketoconazole, as well as a natural substance
called Undecylenic Acid. His doctor is considering prescribing itraconazole
or ketoconazole. Has anyone heard of undecylenic acid? If so, what is it,
it's source, and can it be used topically and/or taken internally?

But, in the meantime, he has raging thrush on his face, particularly at the
corners of the mouth. The areas are red, cracked and itchy. Topical
antifungal applied for last 2 weeks have not helped.

Dr. Newman's Candida protocol says not to use gentian violet if baby has
mouth sores or ulcers. Would this apply to cracked lips/skin on the face?
We are getting desperate. Thanks.
