I dont know if this will help, but I also had high blood pressure after the birth of my last baby. They had me on Aldomet 500mg twice a day. This was my 3rd baby to breastfeed and I never had seen so much milk in my first few weeks!! Of course I thought it could be the medication and I looked it up and I cant remember what it said but something about galactogogue or lactogenises as a side effect. Well my daughter who was IUGR went from 5-3 to a roaring 6-2 in 1 week. Of course her pediatrician was very pleased.

Since then, when I mention this people have looked at me like I had a 3rd eye. I know I didnt dream what I read. I would like to hear one of our pharmacists on this list tell us about it. This need for BP med for a few weeks after delivery is not as rare as you would think and it would be nice to know. Can someone help validate this?

I wonder if her MD would try the Aldomet? It wold be nice if she could have the same side effect.

Hope this helps, and look forward to responses who can find out about Aldomet and increased milk supply,

Can anybody tell me if fenugreek capsules or mother's milk tea (fennel,
anise, fenugreek, coriander seed and blessed thistle) are contraindicated
for high bloodpressure postpartum? My sister gave birth to a 4lb 6oz baby
boy at 32 weeks via c-section due to preeclampsia and at day 3 postpartum
her blood pressure is still quite high. She is on beta blockers. She is
pumping every 3 hours and making attempts at nursing her
as-not-yet-interested baby. She had supply problems after her 1st baby
(born at 37 wks, 4lbs 12oz IUGR)and is worried about the same thing
happening this time so she wants to begin galactagogues as early as
possible. She tried domperidone but it gave her severe stomach cramps.

TIA,

Corrine
