Hi All, This from a colleague of mine who would like to pick your
brains. Please respond to the list and to Sally, the IBCLC working with
this mother, at [log in to unmask] Thanks. Kathleen

Subject: OVERSUPPLY PROBLEM

I am working with a mother who has an abundance of milk that we can't
seem to get under control. I am looking for creative and effective
solutions to this problem.

Here is a little back round info.. Mom had a c-section. When I first
met her she had a fever which dr. didn't think was due to infection, my
guess was engorgement. After feeding her baby, she pumped out 16 oz. on
the lowest setting with ease, approx. 7 mins. Of pumping. I suggested
after feeding to pump to comfort, not till empty, use cold packs and
cabbage leaves. One week later her baby weighs a pound more. As a
result of her milk literally pouring out, the baby is reluctant to get a
mouthful of breast....her nipples are sore and she is pumping the breast
which she does not feed on for approx. 3 minutes and consistently gets
5oz. per session. She has to pump in order to manage her engorged
breast and avoid a fever.

HELP!
