Some of the women on the list below seem to be women who also should not 
have custody of their babies.  I have not followed the rest of this 
discussion but this post seems to implicate a fine line between damage and 
incapacity that makes breastfeeding impossible and that which makes all 
adequate parenting impossible.  Breastfeeding and learning to bond with a 
child can also be part of a larger recovery process.

Absolutely right about the economic factors militating against recovery 
success, especially with the near total absence of drug treatment programs 
that allow children and the total absence of in-patient post-partum 
depression programs that allow children.
