Kris,
JHL had an issue devoted to ankyloglossia a couple of years ago that
summarizes both the issues and the "how to clip". I showed this to my
supervising pediatrician, and after reading it, he was ready to try the
next one himself (the first case of his was referred to an oral surgeon).
It's less of a deal than circumcision, and not much more than ear
piercing. The membrane of the frenulum usually isn't very vascular and
bleeds only a little, with minimal pain; putting baby to breast
afterwards helps stop any bleeding and comforts baby. You might try to
get a back issue of JHL, or copies of the articles via fax for immediate
use, and show them to the doc.
-Lisa
