My sister-in-law is/was on WIC, and took the formula for her kids. The
older (3 1/2) has horrible horrible eczema which *I* attribute to early
weaning from Bm.

I understood from her that she does not get enough ABM from WIC to make it
all the way through the month. She found herself buying the formula for
the last week - week 1/2, especially if the kid was going through a growth
spurt.

Now, I tried to impress on my sister-in-law the importance of Bf, and I
send my in-laws all sorts of wonderful things about ABM causing problems,
some of which I get with all your help.

But when it comes down to it many WIC mothers can not Bf for an extended
period of time. My sister-in-law has a lousy, no-good "husband", who does
nothing nothing nothing to help with the kids (Goes out to buy diapers and
returns 12 hours later). She works 6 days/week, about 12 hrs. (He works
the bars, and he isn't wiping down tables) I don't want to generalize, but
I have the feeling that there are many mothers on WIC with negligent
husbands (and many are hard-working,too) and to expect them to Bf for a
long time may be expecting too much.
The best thing to do is let the mothers know their options and give them
the desire to get started, and take it from there.

Pat:
Well, the women do boil the water to mix with the formula, but afterwards
they throw the bottle into the sink with the rest of the dishes, and wash
it like the rest of the dishes. I've seen some grungy bottles.
What gets me about boiling the water is that I've seen instructions on
formula packing that say NOT to just boil the water. But it doesn't seem
anybody is paying attention.

Recently one of our spring water companies has started advertising itself
as being good for mixing with formula. This is real bad news. They even
show one of their bottles with an artificial nipple on it.
Can this be a violation of the Code?
