That section of
the Guide to Breastfeeding Interventions included interventions that we all
THINK matter, but there's not enough published evidence to support a
recommendation.

Dear Friends:

Thank you Linda, for an insider's view of the situation. At present, I remain
unconvinced..........and am open to being shown the error of my thinking.

With the evidence showing that formula discharge packs have a negative impact
on breastfeeding, (seriously, why else would the companies be giving the
stuff away in pregnancy and the first 3 days postpartum unless they knew that it
sabotaged breastfeeding??) and knowing that formula discharge packs are
violations of the WHO Code, how can one say there is little evidence to support the
Code, as the CDC is saying in its publication on page 6 "Does breastfeeding
reduce the incidence of pediatric overweight?"

The CDC is also saying that there is "limited evidence" for these other
interventions: " 2) improving through professional education the knowledge, skills
and attitudes of healthcare providers related to breastfeeding,
    3) increasing public acceptance of breastfeeding,
     4) providing assistance to breastfeeding women through professionally
staffed hotlines or other informational resources."

The Evidence to Support the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, published
by the WHO, would contradict the CDC there, wouldn't it? And why bother with
oopherectomizing an Ad Campaign if it wouldn't have increased public acceptance
of breastfeeding?

warmly,
