Had an interesting question from the Spanish network that I would like to
throw out. Is there anything published on the association, or lack thereof,
of infant convulsions for fever and type of feeding. Logic and experience
would seem to indicate that the risk of convulsion is lower -- because bf
babies don't seem to run a high temps., but is there any literature?

Also, on the co-sleeping issue. Dr. Jairo Osorno, a Colombian neurosurgeon
shared with us, several years back a synchronized video and electro reading
of his wife and son's brainwaves while they were sleeping together. The
synchrony was incredible. You could see the slight rise in the baby's
brainwaves and the almost simultaneous response of the mother. There seemed
to be no real movement on the part of the baby -- perhaps it was
subliminal-- their minds really seemed to by in synch. Jairo tried to get
some money to do some additional research -- but all the sleep labs were not
into that and McKenna's group already had whatever money was available at
the time.

And what about other mother-child links. I remember being informed when I
was pregnant with my first baby that whenever my husband and I wanted to be
alone and intimate, the baby would "know" and wake up, even if she were in
another room. I thought that was ridiculous -- but danged if it wasn't so....

It would be wonderful if we could all get our institutions to include more
detailed information about infant feeding on all health information forms so
that we could begin to analyze some of these things. There is a group in
Italy that is doing incredible epidemiological chart reviews -- finding
things like fewer cases of appendicitis, fewer cases of undescended
testicles....all kinds of things some of us would never think might be
related to breastfeeding.

However -- if one thinks about it logically -- since this is the way we
should be nourished -- the body ought to function better than when we are
not nourished correctly --

Enough musing for one night -- I'm going to bed...
