I want to support Dr. Newman when he says that children do not need milk
after a year and even before. There is enough evidence in the literature
to demonstrate this. For me however the most compelling bit of proof is
the children. In over 25 years of paediatric practice, in various public
and university hospitals in Venezuela, in the States and back home in
Trinidad, as well as in private practice, it has been my experience that
most children, of all ethnic groups, sexes, ages, etc. simply do not like
to drink milk. I spend large amounts of time talking to parents about
this. They, like all of us, were brought up to believe the old lie, "you
need to drink milk to get strong bones and white teeth." Fortunately,
children always know the truth.
