I had (yes had---he seems to cured) a very allergic child, who also had his
tonsils out at age 2. He would not eat either. I was told that he was
substituting nursing for food because "it was easier." Since the surgery a
year ago my child has not been on antibiotics since and he is pretty much
sleeping through the night and is down to 2-3 nursings a day from 6-8. Prior
to the surgery he was on antibiotics 20 times in 26 months for 2-4 weeks at
a time. Learning to listen to this child was a great mothering journey. I
thank God that I took the CLE course when he was 6 months and started reading
Lactnet. There is so much misery that I spared myself, my family and most
importantly, this child by being exposed to the ideas and thoughts on Lactnet
at the right time. Most importantly following the child's lead, learning
that other children were in exactly the same place and accepting co-sleeping
as the norm (it was the only way I could get any rest).

Nowe, as a healthcare provider and from personal experience, I find it
horrifying and disgusting that anyone would recommend pediasure for a child
that is receiving breastmilk. I consider pediasure even farther inferior to
formula. This is complete and utter ignorance.

Ignorance that I hope to someday be a part of ending.
