I have had some mothers with term, healthy babies who wanted to bottlefeed
breast milk because, "The baby just wouldn't take to the breast," or "I wanted
him to be used to a bottle when I go back to work." Actually, I think some of
these women have a hang-up about baby sucking from their breasts.
By the way, I and the lactation consultant on our breastfeeding team are
meeting next week with a soon to be adoptive mother who is gung ho about
breastfeeding. I've told her she might be able to supply at least part of her
baby's needs. If any of you have some secrets I might not know about send
them my way! V. Nichols-Johnson, MD
